About Me

My Story

I graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and completed my Master’s degree at the University of West Georgia, as well completing additional graduate courses in Counseling at Austin Peay State University and the University of Montevallo. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in both Alabama and Tennessee with more than 20 years of clinical experience. I truly love working in the field of mental health because new discoveries are being made regularly and I thrive on learning, understanding, and creating (or discovering) effective strategies to help my clients.

I have compassion and respect for people and the variety of methods people develop to survive (at a minimum) and to thrive (at a maximum). I seek first to understand a client's perspective and values, , (this may require time a space for my clients to explore and discover these), then apply interventions I know which seem most relevant for each case.

I work with adults & adolescents looking to make changes in behavior, perceptions, and relationships. I offer counseling to individuals, couples, & families. At times, I offer group therapy. I employ a variety of treatment modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Insight-Oriented Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), & Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
